Editorial Guidelines

Introduction

This document describes and delimits the type and scope of news items published by EDN on its external communication and dissemination channels: newsletter mailings, website, and social media platforms.

What We Publish

Contemporary Dance Initiatives

We publish and share initiatives of the contemporary dance sector in Europe, with a particular focus on sector infrastructure, professional career development, mobility opportunities, internationalisation, cooperation, advocacy actions, and research.

Who Is It For

Dance Stakeholders in Europe

Our audience consists mainly of dance development professionals, both artistic and administrative, engaged in the development of dance infrastructure in Europe.

Included in our audience are cross-sectoral professionals, researchers, scholars, experts, and the broader cultural and creative community.

Some of EDN’s communication and dissemination actions specifically address cultural policy professionals, local, national, regional, and European policy development officers, public officials, funders, and administrators.

Indirectly addressed are the local citizens, communities, and audiences – individuals, groups and community representatives who participate in the co-creation of projects and artistic development work by EDN members and their associates.

As an EU-funded Network for contemporary dance structures, we recognise the need to speak on behalf of the sector with one voice. To this end, EDN makes use of the network’s positionality to hold space for a relevant and balanced representation of situated voices and practices.

How (Much) Do We Publish

Our approach to communication aims to be strategic rather than reactive. Across our channels, we share news in the following categories:

  • Network – Updates on EDN’s projects, activities, and resources.
  • Members – Internationally relevant projects, activities, and resources from EDN members.
  • Sector – Initiatives, projects, and resources from partner organisations, relevant to the dance sector, performing arts, and the broader cultural and creative sectors in Europe.

Editorial Priorities

We look for a way to curate, prioritise, and balance the information we share, keeping in mind the following priorities:

  • Participatory access: we prioritise posts that invite participation and dissemination of knowledge or professional opportunities.
  • International relevance: we prioritise posts addressing international audiences.
  • Thematic relevance: we prioritise posts that align with the network’s values and focus themes.
  • Geographical balance: we prioritise initiatives addressing underrepresented countries and regions in Europe (as observed in the Perform Europe Report).

What We Don't Publish

One of EDN’s missions is to secure fair and sustainable work environments in dance. We do not publish open calls without transparent, fair, and supportive terms and conditions for dance professionals.

EDN advocates for dance as an art form, the status of dance artists, and dance infrastructure at the policy level. We do not publish commercial opportunities, audition calls, or competition announcements. EDN does not serve as an intermediary for artistic production, a placement service, or a platform for showcasing artistic works.
