Through the SHIFT project, we and our fellow participating networks have implemented eco-guidelines designed specifically for cultural organisations. Each network followed both mandatory and optional guidelines, underwent peer audits, and engaged in an online development workshop. The final certification was awarded after an independent audit conducted by Vector42, ensuring transparency and credibility in the process.

Why Eco-Certification Matters for EDN

As a network dedicated to supporting dance professionals and organisations across Europe, we understand the environmental impact of our activities—particularly related to travel. Sustainability is at the core of our values, and this certification underscores our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint and fostering climate-conscious practices within the dance community.

One of the highlights of our journey was the peer learning experience during the autumn 2024 workshop, where we exchanged best practices and contributed to refining the SHIFT guidelines. The collaborative spirit of the SHIFT Culture community has been instrumental in shaping how we integrate sustainability into our operations.

Caro Overy, Green Arts Manager at Culture for Climate Scotland, praised the collective effort, stating: "We continue to be impressed and inspired by the way eco-certificate participant networks have brought their eco-guidelines to life through their performance in the audits and in their learning with the community."

Looking Ahead: More Networks, More Impact

In 2025, we aim to build on this progress by adopting additional eco-guidelines and welcoming new networks to the scheme. A limited number of spots are available for cultural networks interested in joining this initiative. If your organisation is looking to take a structured approach to sustainability, we encourage you to reach out to Caro Overy at caro.overy@cultureforclimate.scot for more details.

We extend our congratulations to our fellow eco-certified networks and look forward to continuing our shared commitment to sustainability!

Our Commitment to Sustainability

At EDN, we recognize the impact of human activity on the climate and are committed to reducing our ecological footprint.

Environmental sustainability is at the heart of our work, closely linked to social responsibility and economic resilience. We strive to integrate sustainability into everything we do—whether collaborating with others, managing our operations, or supporting community members.

EDN's environmental policy outlines our key focus areas and how we address them. It has full support from our team and has been approved by our Board.

In 2022, EDN's research publication on Environmental Sustainability in Contemporary Dance offered key recommendations for reducing our environmental impact. This policy builds on those insights, turning them into action for a greener future.
