Guiding principles
Dantzaz encourages employment and professionalization in the dance sector by promoting choreographic creation, research, and innovation. It provides opportunities to performers and choreographers worldwide through remunerated artistic residencies and support for mediation projects for the development of new audiences.
The organisation is located in the facilities of Gipuzkoako Dantzagunea, where choreographic creation, mediation, meetings with the community and accompanying artistic processes go hand in hand. Dantzaz takes part in international cooperation networks and leads various projects in the Euskadi-Navarre-New Aquitaine region.
History
Dantzaz was founded in 2002 during the planning and structuring of the cultural sector in the Basque Country. This coincided with a period when dance artists, who had completed their training processes in Europe, were eager to return and actively contribute to enriching the sector that should welcome these professionals.
In its more than 20 years of history, Dantzaz has distinguished itself by its adaptability to a changing reality, engaging in various lines of work: community outreach, professionalization, and employment through choreographic production and touring, as well as support for creation and research processes. Throughout, there is a constant effort to establish connections between local and international performing arts operators.
Building and facilities
Dantzaz is situated in the facilities of Dantzagunea, owned by the regional government of Gipuzkoa. In a close relationship with this institution, Dantzaz collaborates in the management of these facilities, as well as in the development of new lines of work dedicated to the development of the dance sector in our territory, opening avenues of collaboration at an international level.
Dantzagunea has four dance studios, and, through its collaboration with the city of Renteria, can use the city's stage facilities: a theatre and a space created specifically for stage production.
The collaboration between Dantzaz and Dantzagunea is a unique management model that works very well, attested by their relationship of almost twenty years, and that opens new ways for the development of the sector.
